Savannah Law School Welcomes Senator Lester G. Jackson, III as 2018 Commencement Speaker

Savannah Law School (SLS) is pleased to announce Dr. Lester G. Jackson, III as the Law School’s 2018 commencement speaker. Dr. Jackson currently serves in the Georgia General Assembly as a three term senator, representing the 2nd district of Georgia. Commencement exercises are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on May 18, 2018 at the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum – 41 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Savannah, GA 31401

Savannah Law School proudly welcomes Senator Lester G. Jackson III as the commencement speaker for this year’s graduation. Over the course of his career in public service, healthcare, and the military he has received numerous awards and become nationally renowned for his service to others. His words will guide and inspire the graduates to use their knowledge for public good and to serve their community during their professional careers.

About Dr. Lester G. Jackson, III

Dr. Jackson was first elected to the legislature in 1998. While in the Georgia House of Representatives, he was voted by his peers as Freshman Legislator of the Year. After serving in the Georgia House of Representatives for 10 years, Dr. Jackson was elected to the State Senate, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs Committee. Dr. Jackson is a nationally renowned healthcare provider who has received numerous awards, including being honored by the Georgia Dental Association as the Legislator of the Year and he received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Dental Association. In addition, Dr. Jackson was voted by his legislative peers as the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Legislator of the Year and currently serves as he chairman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, the largest in the nation.

After graduating from Meharry Medical College in 1985, Dr. Jackson was commissioned as a naval officer, proudly serving seven years as a dental officer for the United State Navy. He obtained the rank of Lt. Commander in four years, and served as Detachment Commander of the Beaufort Marine Corp. Air Station Dental Clinic, in Beaufort, South Carolina. As the Detachment Commander, Dr. Jackson provided dental services to military personnel and their families. In 1991, after serving his country with distinction, he later established the Jackson Dental Center in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Jackson is the CEO of Coastal Health Solutions, Inc. (CHS). Coastal Health Solutions Inc. is a private agency which provides staffing, management resources and services for various needs of the dental and allied health industry.

Dr. Jackson’s memberships include an active member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy; The American Dental Association; The National Dental Association and The Georgia Dental Association. He is life member of both Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Dr. Jackson also serves as a contributing healthcare editor for the Savannah Herald.
